✅ Why Use Rib Lath?
Extra Strength & Rigidity
Features 7 solid V‑shaped ribs embedded in hot-dip galvanized steel—delivering excellent stiffness and support under stress.Ideal for Plaster & Concrete Keying
The herringbone mesh pattern offers consistent plaster mechanical bonding, giving a uniform depth and firm adherence.Rust-Resistant & Durable
Hot-dip galvanized steel stands up to Malaysia’s humid, rainy climate—ideal for long-lasting outdoor and indoor installations.Stress & Crack Control
Approved for use on walls & ceilings with framing spacing up to 24″ on center, minimizing cracks and movement damage.
🔧 Where to Use Rib Lath
Wet Walls & Ceilings: Great for bathrooms, kitchens, balconies, and exterior soffits.
Stucco & Rendered Coats: Provides a sturdy base for high-quality finishes.
Suspended Ceilings & Partition Walls: Ensures stability and reinforcement across wide spans.
Formwork Backing: Supports thin concrete slabs or decorative finishes.
📝 How to Apply Rib Lath – Simple Guide
1. Prepare Surface
Ensure framing (timber or metal) is clean and aligned. For ceilings, supports should be ≤24″ apart
2. Cut & Position
Use metal shears or nibblers to cut rib lath. Run ribs perpendicular to framing.
3. Fix Securely
Timber studs: Use 1″ galvanized nails or 6d staples at each rib, every ~150–200 mm.
Metal framing: Secure with galvanized wire ties or corrosion-resistant clips.
Masonry/concrete: Use powder-actuated fasteners to anchor each rib
4. Overlap & Tie
Overlap edges by at least one rib laterally and 25–50 mm lengthwise. Tie overlaps every rib to prevent movement
5. Provide Keying Space
Leave a 6–10 mm gap from solid backing so mortar wraps around ribs, enhancing mechanical grip
6. Apply Plaster or Stucco
Embed rib lath fully in a first “scratch” or base coat. For ceilings, avoid moisture barriers that trap water.
Maintenance Tips:
Ensure proper curing (2–3 days drying before topcoat).
Install control joints at spans >18 feet to prevent cracking .
For timber backing, consider craft or tar paper to reduce plaster loss
